A Case of Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising in Benign Cystic Teratoma of the Ovary

Abstract

|
The dermoid cyst is the most common ovarian germ cell neoplasm and comprises approximately 10~15% of all ovarian tumors. Development of malignancy in a benign cyst of the ovary is rare. In as much as benigh dermoid cyst may contain a wide variety
of
tissues derived from all 3 germ cell layers. Many types of cancer can be developed. Among those rare tumors with malignant change in a benign dermoid, 80% are squamous cell carcinoma, the most common type.
We experienced a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising in benign cystic teratoma of the left ovary in 70 years old postmenopausal woman, and present this case with a brief review of concerned literatures.
